Converting a Truckee Home from Gas to Electric Heating
For this project in the Glenshire / Devonshire / Juniper Hills area of Truckee, the homeowner wanted to replace an aging gas furnace and gas water heater, switch to electric heating, and explore rebates for the conversion. The home had no air conditioning, so the upgrade also added central AC for summer comfort.
Fusion Heating & Cooling removed the old gas equipment and installed a Bosch electric indoor air-handling system with a heat pump coil, a Bosch inverter heat pump outdoors, and a Bosch hybrid electric water heater. The result: electric space heating, newly added central air conditioning, and electric water heating.

Replacing the Gas Furnace and Adding Central Air Conditioning
The original setup included an older gas furnace and a separate gas storage water heater. We replaced the furnace with new electric indoor equipment and connected the indoor coil to the outdoor Bosch heat pump. This furnace replacement addressed heating and cooling together, giving the homeowner central air conditioning where there had been none.
A heat pump transfers heat from outdoor air into the home in heating mode. In cooling mode, it reverses the process and moves indoor heat outside. Learn more about our heating installation and replacement services.
Bosch Inverter Heat Pump: Efficient Heating and Cooling
The Bosch outdoor unit uses an inverter-driven compressor that adjusts its output as heating and cooling demand changes. This capacity control helps match the home’s needs and supports efficient operation and more consistent comfort. Actual efficiency depends on the installed equipment combination, outdoor conditions, and system setup. Explore Bosch inverter heat pump technology.
We also built a concrete base for the outdoor equipment. The progress photo shows the freshly poured pad, while the finished installation shows the Bosch heat pump on raised supports above the base.

Bosch Hybrid Electric Water Heater Installation
Alongside the HVAC upgrade, we replaced the old gas water heater with a Bosch hybrid electric water heater. This type of water heater combines heat pump technology with electric heating elements. It draws heat from surrounding air and transfers it into the stored water. “Hybrid” refers to these two electric heating methods; the water heater does not need a gas burner.
The completed indoor photo shows the Bosch equipment, insulated water piping, and updated connections. Together, the replacements moved the home’s space heating and water heating away from gas while adding summer cooling. Read about Bosch hybrid water heating.

Truckee Heat Pump and Water Heater Rebates
Rebate opportunities were one reason the homeowner chose this gas-to-electric upgrade. As checked in September 2026, Truckee Donner Public Utility District’s applications list $500–$800 per ton for qualifying heat pumps that replace and eliminate a gas furnace, depending on the efficiency tier, and $1,000 for a qualifying electric heat pump water heater replacing a gas unit.
Eligibility depends on utility service, equipment specifications, installation requirements, application timing, and supporting documentation. Confirm current requirements before purchasing equipment. These amounts describe available programs and do not establish a rebate paid for this project. Planning a Furnace Replacement in Glenshire, Devonshire or Juniper Hills?
If your Truckee home has an older gas furnace and no central AC, a heat pump installation can address both upgrades in one project. Replacing a gas water heater at the same time can help move more of your home’s heating needs to electricity.
